The Park at Flat Rock hosting free nature walks to welcome spring

With the Easter holiday less than two weeks away, here are some no-cost opportunities to get out and enjoy spring.

The Park at Flat Rock will be hosting free events for the next several weeks.

Nature Walks and Talks

Nature Walks and Talks will be held at 10 a.m. on the fourth Saturday of each month, beginning in May and ending in October.

The events are as follows:

May 28 – Forest Ecology

June 25 – Bees & Beekeeping

July 23 – Bluebirds

Aug. 27 – Stream Ecology

Sept. 24 – Birdwatching

Oct. 22 – Seasons Changing

Participants will meet at the Staton Pavilion. These walks are for all ages, but no pets are allowed. Sunscreen, comfortable shoes and a water bottle are recommended. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Nature Immerson/Forest Bathing walks

Nature Immersion/Forest Bathing guided walks will also be held at 10 a.m. every third Saturday of the month, beginning in April and lasting through September.

These guided walks will be conducted by Roger Bass, who is certified as a guide by the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy. The walk will be less than a mile and focus on experiencing nature through senses while breathing in healing forest air, according to a press release.

The dates are April 16, May 21, June 18, July 16, Aug. 20 and Sept. 17.

Walkers should meet at the Staton Pavilion. Sunscreen, comfortable shoes, a water bottle and a snack are recommended. There is a limit of 15 people per walk, and pets aren’t allowed.

City Offices closed on Good Friday

The City of Hendersonville government offices will be closed on Friday, April 15 in observance of Good Friday.

Garbage, Recycling and Brush Collection will not occur. Collection for Friday customers will be delayed one week with collection resuming on Friday, April 22. For water/sewer issues occurring on the City holiday, use the after hours number at 828-891-7779.
